The Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) of the Cathedral Church of St. Bartholomew Anglican Church, Diocese of Kubwa had a strong desire to render services to humanity and the community at large. In a bid to actualize this desire, the YMCA, under the leadership of Mr. Ukandu Ibekwe, conceived the idea of establishing a clinic in the Diocese of Kubwa, to be referred to as “DIOCESAN CLINIC”. This desire crystalized on the 25th of July, 2009, with the foundation Laying Ceremony of the Diocesan Clinic, by Rt. Rev’d. Duke T. Akamisoko, bishop, Diocese of Kubwa, at the premises of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Kubwa. This was the first foundation laying ceremony performed by the bishop, upon his translation from the Diocese of Zonkwa to the Diocese of Kubwa on 15th February, 2009. In March, 2013, the Diocesan Board expressed concern over the deteriorating state of health care delivering in our community and in deed in the entire country. To this end, the Diocesan Board resolved to invest in health care services, on behalf of the Diocese of Kubwa; with a view to complementing the efforts of the various tiers of the Government in Nigeria, in health care delivering on one hand and employment creation on the other. The concern of the Diocese was brought to bear on the 13th day of August, 2013 when the Diocese took a firm decision to consolidate the vision of the YMCA, with respect to the Diocesan Clinic project, after due discussion with the leadership of the YMCA. This consolidation was informed by the fact the YMCA’s project which took effect in July, 2009 was on hold at foundation level. The Diocese tool over the project and increased the size and design, on foundation and completed the structure in February, 2015. The Diocese increased the size of the structure because it has vision of coming up with a Diocesan General Hospital, where general health care services would be delivered. The actualization of this project was driven by the Lord Bishop of Diocese of Kubwa, Rt. Rev’d. Duke Akamisoko. In addition to material and financial support he made towards the successful completion of the project, the bishop was also involved with the direct supervision of the project. The Bishop got support from United Kingdom in April, 2015 in the area of the Hospital Equipment. Also, in actualizing this big vision, Dr. Festus Odia made available his skills resources immensely. The Diocesan dedication the proceeds realized from 2015 Synod Support for the funding of the Hospital Equipment and initial take-off cost implication. To further actualize the take-off of the Hospital, the Diocesan Board set up a Steering Committee, which was saddled with the responsibilities of working out modalities for take-off of the Anglican Hospital. The Hospital was dedicated By His Grace, The Most Rev’d. Nicholas Okoh MA, FSS MSS, LLD, Archbishop, Metropolitan and primate of all Nigeria Anglican Communion and the Archbishops and Bishops of Northern Nigeria (Anglican Communion), on Wednesday 26th of August, 2015, 10:am.
